Traditional paddlers of the South - TIPS

In May Jannie and I went to South Carolina more specifically to a traditional qajaq event connected to Qajaq USA. It's has been a while but it still deserves a little blog post.

The weather was fantastic, the locals considered it spring, for us it was a really warm summer. We spend the first couple of days with Chuck and Tally in Beaufort, South Carolina.

We had never been this far south before so we had to try it all. The sweet tea, visit the very beautiful historic sites which Beaufort is famous for, check out the wildlife, smell the magnolias, we got to swing in swings and eat fried green tomatoes. Every thing was lovely and the southern hospitality left absolutely nothing out.

TIPS - Traditional Inuit Paddlers of the South
We have met Tally several times at Delmarva and she invited us to come to TIPS this year. Luckily we were able to go. The event took place at lake greenwood 17 - 19 of May and is one of the smaller events in Qajaq USA but that means you really get to know people well. Tally and Chuck did a great job of making everything so well planned and smooth.

About 25 people attended and we coached with our good friend Dubside whom we've worked with several times now. We had such a fun time, we met skilled and happy paddlers and met Ole who originally comes from Ã…rhus, Denmark. We also met another friend sweet Jane who also did a few classes herself.

Anders did rolling classes and a paddle building class, Jannie did strokes class and a kayak ballet class were almost every body joined in to do a show on Sunday.

We also did a presentation from the Chapel and Norway and a rolling demo with Dubside.

We also got to take a few paddles. We had a full moon and warm and calm weather. They told us that the most dangerous animal wasn't the alligators but the brain eaters :/...! We didn't meet those guys though.

And this guy thought better of paddling a fiberglass kayak and got the h... out...

Thanks for everything we love TIPS :)
